Surrounded by peaks reaching 11,000' with density altitudes breaking 9,000’ on summer days, KTRK warrants significant consideration by pilots to prepare for all aspects of mountain flying. Expect variable winds, non-radar environment, non-precision approaches with high minimums, and sharing airspace with a complex fleet mix including jets, turbo, piston/flight instruction, gliders, skydivers, EMS, and fire services.
